Puhi Peaks Station, New Zealand

The Project 

This project based in the Puhi Peaks Station covers 1618 hectares of the Seaward Kaikoura Range. Over half the property is protected in perpetuity, including 90 hectares of native forest registered with PFSI (Permanent Forest Sink Initiative) and the largest open space covenant in New Zealand since 2005. 

The Impact 

This project will have an immense impact on the region 

  • The establishment of this project will lead to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to an average of 16,000 tCO2e total stored 100 tCO2e annual removals 

  • The area has a wide vegetation and displays complex forestry ecosystems. 

Sustainable Development Goals/Outcomes 

  • Carbon farming and perpetual carbon sequestration 

  • High quality ecotourism and hunting operations developed alongside a thorough biodiversity control plan 

  • Holistic approach to land management to implement conservation of the local natural heritage
